Mmm. Autofocus hasn't been Tamron's strong suit recently. It will be interesting to see whether this one is any good.

I've not had any problems with AF on the Tamron 70-200/2.8 VC, fine lens in fact, but f/6.3 ain't f/2.8 (or even f/5.6 which Canon's AF ceiling). It's a game of two halves though, with the camera perhaps playing the key role.

I think we've already seen enough to suspect this is going to be a contender at least - just how good, and much the price settles to :)

yeah I looked up sigma 120 300 and that's 2.8kg I think
add a 2x tc to that too..
 
why they bother with the zoom aspect of it all bugs me ,the market is there for a sigma /tamron/tokina prime 600mm lens ,do they really not employ market researchers to find these things out .the majority of wildlife shooters would logically only use this at its 600mm reach 95% of the time .maybe sports togs would use the zoom .but we can but dream

It's heavy, but you're paying the price for the fast glass and super sharp optics (even with TCs). Sigma really need to get off their bums and put out a new 100-300 f/4 OS or 200-400 f/4 OS

Hazza, with the new OS version(s)? With a 2x they lose some of their sharpness but even with the 1.4 wide open they are easily up there with the likes of the own brand 70-200 in picture quality. The old 120-300 isn't as sharp as I understand.

I've got the old version, would explain why. Like the look of the new 120-300 'S' model!

Agree, would love a 3rd party 600mm prime in the offerings
 
There doesnt seem to be too much in the way of UK info, or sample images for that matter.

I am assessing options for my longer lenses. Currently have a VR1 70-200 and a 300mm f4. Dont use the zoom as often as i should and the 300 only comes out at airshows. Have thought of selling both and getting a 28-300 to be versitile, or a 120-300 sigma but that is big and not a carry round! This could be tempting though...
 
I did a few proce comparisons on digital rev and found them to be 22-27% cheaper than the best UK price.

That would make the lens £840-900 based on the above price.

Just a guess though and that may not even be the price from tamron.

I did a google search via the Shopping option, and the price comes up at £949 from Park Cameras in Canon/Nikon/Sony, but when you click through on that, Parks price is stated as TBC. Another grey importer quotes £952 inc VAT. TBH I don't think we can take much from these prices, and given the already high demand for the first shipments, I'd be surprised if official UK copies come in at anything under £1200. If it's good, still a snip at that though (y)

10/11 months is a long time to reply, but i'm sure it's not illegal :)

I got my Tamron for £799 new , and it came delivered from the UK in 3 days, via a Far east seller. Lens is excellent, and hand holdable, no problem
