Hi All,

I have a company designing me a new photography website. It will be to promote my work, and be the starting point of moving to full time. It will be aimed at wedding, portrait, events, but have a pets and nature section.

I was wondering what you think is important to be included in a good site.

So far I have provided the designer the following.

1. NO Flash
2. No waiting for site to load, needs to go right in.
3. Clean and easy to navigate.
4. Must be dynamic, so I can change and update.
5. Include a blog that I can keep updated.

The normal gallery, and contact sections, any thoughts?

Cheers,
Will

Dont have a pets and nature seciton,it doesnt fit in with your prime target of weddings and events. I used to have landscapes and models on my wedding site until advised to make seperate sites.

Good SEO. But that should be a given from designer point of view.
No landing page. ;)

That's a pretty standard spec. You should also look into SEO, ease of customisation (changing design etc without loosing content), mobile version / compatibility.

Thanks guys, I will get the pet / wildlife separate, maybe just a link though?

The guy has done the 1st draft of the site, and its looking OK, but no where near right, but we have to start somewhere I guess.

I am so crap at designing stuff, but when it feels good I know, lol

Post it up if the designer is ok with it to get feedback.

SEO is important, mobile compatibility definitely is. Ability for you to be easily able to change galleries.

Client galleries password protected for wedding clients.

Online ordering for guests to order prints from wedding?

Quite a few things you could add to that list, but your budget will determine what you get.

There are three different menus... the one on the bottom may not be seen by the vast majority of visitors unless they scroll down.. The prime position for a menu is top left as everyone sees that.... your third menu is bottom right... not good design IMHO

Left hand menu is a little low down so the jury is out on that..

Otherwise looks sharp to me :)

Thank you for the feedback.

Really is what I need, totally agree on the menu thing, and will be passing this onto the designer. He has been paid for 20 days work, so hopefully covers a fair bit :)
