New York Black and White Set

I went to New York City with the intent of capturing the spirit of New York.
These are 6 photos that stood out for me, and they could have only worked in mono.
Comments and criticism welcome.

Was a spur of the moment thing.
The inside was quite dark and the outside was bright. Nightmare for exposing correctly on the fly.

Took an average, processed the raw twice - once for the outside, once for the inside, and then combined in photomatix.

1, 2 and 6 are probably the weakest shots interest wise, in my opinion. Would you agree?

thats right, 4 is dark where the interest is (the people) so that lets that down a bit to

But number 5 is really cool.

I considered the focal point in number 4 to be the van and the shops behind it. The people are noticed afterwards, keeping interest on the photo. Just my 2p though! Thanks doc

I love new york for photography... and images always stand out for me when i've never seen them before... and they capture my imagination... Number 5 done this for me... the next time i'm at the top of the rock... I'll find it dificult not to recreate your shot...

It's much better to find the shot yourself I know... but I know I wont be able to resist it... you have done well to get the clarity of the stuff out the window so clear!

Did you know the people? I am always so warey in this day and age of including anyone in photos for fear that they react badly to my use of them within the pic?

Nope, I didn't know the people, saw them sat looking out the window, swung round took a reading for the outside and shot.

Resurrected the dark insides using the RAW editor, thank god for it by the way
