We are doing a road trip around North Island next year. We are using Discover the World. We have decided not to go to Sydney [where I have friends and a brother] as we have visited them recently and it was getting tricky with trans Tasman flights. Anyway, our current itinerary ends in Napier and we will now need to get ourselves back to Auckland; we won't be doing that hike that takes in the two volcanoes [ knee might not be ready for that] and we are trying to figure out if it is worth travelling around the south coast and up the east coast of North Island or should we get back to Auckland in a day or with a stopover. We are stopping in Taupo on the way down to Napier having been in Rotorua, Coramandel and near the Bay of Islands [where I have cousins]. Does anybody have any tips for this route?
