Hi all,

After a chat with a photography friend during some time off from work, I took to building a bubble tank and making a ring to take some bubble film photos. Then commenced a lot of fiddling to get angles and lighting right but, in the end, I ended up with the following which I am quite pleased with but the angles I had to have the bubble film at to get the colours meant I could only capture a thin part of the film...

This was the set up...

I would like to hear any feedback on the photos and set up please. I would like to get a full frame of in focus film but that wold mean the film would have to be totally square to the camera lens and I'm not sure how to light it etc?

Many thanks,
Lee

Hi you may get more response if you posted the photos on the forum. Instead of people having to go to your flikr stream.

Can't really comment on your set up....
But I did quite like the set of images on Flickr, some really interesting looking ones ....

I see no reason why you can't take a pic straight on.
It's the angle that is important, so change the angle of the incident light surely?

No matter how I tried, I couldn't see the colours in the soap film with it perpendicular to the lens. It was as if the light then needed to be where the lens was if that makes sense. A ring flash or some other kind of light that goes around the lens may have helped but I don't have one.

I don't know, to be honest :) Wouldn't the light have to be reflected at an angle for you to see the colours? If so, a ring flash wouldn't help.
What happens if you light from underneath, with the light at different angles? Transmitted light rather than reflected.
You may need to flag the light to stop light spill.

I'm just writing this to bump the thread in the hopes someone who knows will come along...

Great composition and colours in the first one but do agree would be better to shoot straight on
I've not done anything like that before so can't advise sorry

Thanks for the comments.
I now have a flash gun and remote trigger so will be giving it a go again to see if I can get the colours with the film square on to the camera.
