What's the filter(s) that you folks think most/every photographer should have?

I havent used them in the past but after a quick read it seems like I really should have one or two if only to protect my glass.

For example stopping the sky down to a closer exposure to the land? This would be great for me as most of my daylight shots are coming out very poor these days mostly due to this harsh exp. contrast...

thanks 4 any tips:)

PS. Where to buy as well?

it all depends on what you shoot i guess. i shoot landscapes and so far have
1&2 stop solid ND
1&2 stop ND Grads
and a graduated sunset filter

i think i got mine from jessops, warehouse express and 7dayshop

Speedgraphic's prices in their catalog seem very good for the Cokins, even cheaper than WE.
