I've getting a nex7 with the 18-55 zoom lens..also getting the Sony 50mm f1.8 lens.. Now I also want a lens for some nice wide scene shots on my holiday in Mexico..want get take some nice sunset pics ect..now the other lens that are available are the sony 16mm 2.8 lens and the two sigma 2.8 lens ..19mm and 30 mm lens..which would be the best lens for scene pictures please??

If you want quality get the 19mm Sigma. If you want width get the 16mm, as you can attach a Sony adapter that allows a 14mm perspective (i'm sure?) on the 16mm lens and you can also attach a fisheye adapter as well.

I found the 16mm optically poor and I rarely found myself going that wide anyway. The only thing I liked was the size and fisheye adapter.

Edit - I heard rumours of the 16mm being discontinued and I can't find anywhere selling it first hand? Only place is an Amazon seller trying to get £340 for it.

Or you could consider the 24mm 1.8; my one was due this weeks as jessops promised but no sign of it yet!

As for the 16mm, it really does get mixed reviews. I don't know if there is/was a quality control issue with earlier models? But I have seen plenty of quality shots on Flickr etc which have looked very good quality. But it's hard to pixel peep without the full size image.

I also will be getting the 50mm, I hope Sony bring out a Black model soon!

I'm nearly spent up for my holidays so I can only afford one lens..either the 19mm or the 30 mm sigma..just got to decide which!!!But am edging towards the 19mm... Maybe?!?!??

If you want to take wide landscape shots the 18mm end of the lens you've got would be fine. You'll be stopping down for landscape detail anyway so it will be sharp. The sigma 19mm is longer than the kit lens so your only gain is f2.8 which will help with low light but not general landscape shots.

Cheers
Steve

So is the 30mm out then as my zoom lens has that aswell Sorry if its a silly question but I'm new to all this...

Cheers for the advice..don't want to waste my money but also I want a bit of choice to get different types of film and photos..so really trying to get advice

I have the sony 16mm f2.8 and its a real nice wide lens which takes nice sharp shots, Sony also do a wideange adapter lens for it as well as a fisheye. I got the fisheye and its a cracking piece of kit for getting everything in as well as all that wonderfull distortion.

Mmm this ain't easy is it for a newbie..I know we're I can get my hands on the Sony 16mm really cheap aswell..
