Nicknames for Lenses

Now does the Minolta 50mm f/1.7 qualify as a Nifty Fifty?? I'm never sure!

the nifty fifty is the cheap canon 50mm f1.8 not any 50mm prime

the 100-400 is not a dust pump either

I think the "Nifty" refers to the f1.8 and its low price point. Seen as one of the best value lenses ever.

Actually, to be completely correct, the nifty fifty actually only refers to one lens, that is the Canon 50mm f/1.8, then people started using it for the 1.4, and eventually Nikon users decided their equivilents would be named the same.
