I was just changing lenses and it came apart in my hand.
It's only a few moths old from kerso on here
is it f***** ??
 
Happened to a friend of mine. She just bought another as it is such a good lens
 
It seems to be a fairly common issue , I've know of people just carefully putting them back together again and they appear to still work fine .
Just get it fixed under a warrenty claim though . You may just end up with a brand new one from Canon I can't see the repair cost been justified on such a cheap lens .
 
Yep, mine just fell apart! As mine's a used one from evil bay I just "popped" it back together, it seems fine!

There are just two, tiny plastic clips that hold the whole lens together! If you get everything lined up correctly you can give it a good squeeze and it really does "Pop" back together.
 
Mine fell apart when I pointed it down some steps to take a picture of someone below me. The whole front just popped out. I tried to push it back but it kept coming out again. It was past the warranty date so I took it into a shop to find out how much it would cost to fix it. They sent it away and a week later told me it would be £115. So I just took it home, stuck it in a cupboard and left it there.

A few months later I got it out to check out if it could be fixed. I pushed the front in and twisted it and it kind of jammed there, but it still autofocused. I carried on using it and got quite a few good shots out of it. Some months ago I found a 2nd-hand one on sale for quite a bit less than full price (can't remember exactly how much) and bought that. It didn't give me any better shots than the broken one but I carried on using that one. I would expect it to fall apart at some point in the future, though.

In my opinion, it's just a shoddily built lens that happens to create fantastic pictures. Canon should bring out a Mk III with a proper casing and metal bayonet fitting and charge about £150 for it. I'm sure they'd sell a lot of them.
 
Very common problem with this lens, theres tutorials out there to repair it but its fidly, I repair them all the time. The mk1 is built much much better but they sell for £130-160 and thats a 15year old lens but optically is pretty much the same.
 
Had a go at putting it back together this morning and was successful , not sure how long for but it's fully working again.
It came apart in three pieces and I'v managed to pop them back together :D
 
Yep happened to me, now own a sigma 1.4 as a replacement.

Good choice, I won't buy another in a hurry, even though the IQ is pretty darn good, although I'm sure I was unlucky it didn't stay together longer :shrug:

Really want a 35mm 1.4 for low light pub/gig's
but I think I'd be better off up-grading my body for a better suited one before hand and it's all about the money :'(
