I was fortunate enough to visit AAC Middle Wallop last week for a forthcoming feature on 673(Training) Squadron and their WAH-64D Apaches. The visit coincided with night flying so we knew we were going to get the chance to shoot them in darkness and also near darkness.

This was only my second go at this so I thought I would share some of the results.

Thanks for taking a look.

Gareth

Hi Gareth
cool shots (y) realise exsposure length, but i do think No1 is spoilt with guy between the choppers, where as in No4 it works for me

i like 2 and 3 shame the pilot is a bit blurred in 2 though, i love seeing the apaches they just look menacing

Awesome. Number 2 for me, closely followed by number one. Very clean sharp shots. Nice and different overall. Number two would nice as my desktop for a while...;) :D

Kev.

fugly things -but effective......... if your idea of effective is can identify and prioritise 256 most dangerous threats in 2 seconds, and then somehow wifi 8 of them together so no 1's primary target has a better shot from no 5, so 5 shoots at 1's target, 3 shoots at 4's....... crazy.......

If you want a good read, I recommend "Ed Macy - Apache!" and Also " Ed Macy - Hellfire"

dragonflies on steroids!

Thanks again folks.

Both books are good but the first one ("Apache") is much better IMHO, though I enjoyed parts of "Hellfire" too.

Funny old thing but Ed Macy naturally isn't his real name - but we did see plenty of pictures of him on the walls at Middle Wallop!

epic shots, might be worth opening in PS making a copy layer then masking out the heli and running NR on the background or even just the sky :D
