Nikkor 18-105 kit lens, any good.

I had it and thought it produced very good images

I only sold it to fund an upgrade

One thing I didnt like though was the plastic lens mount, would have preferred to see a metal one

good focal length as well

I really like the 18-105, it gives good pictures ( I am not a pixel peeper , a professional or someone who prints A0 pictures ! ), and I think the quality is quite good. I stays on the camera all the time so no worries about "plastic mounts"
I especially like the manual override on the focus ring.
I sometimes need a longer reach, but that will have to wait till next years bonus.

I think the 18-105 kit lens is probably the best of the Nikon kit lenses (so far) and I don't have any qualms about using it. This image was taken with it:

I don't think that's too shabby :)

The 18-105 is a fine lens, only real issues are a bit of distortion that's easily sorted if it causes you a problem. I got lots of great shots with it on my D90.
