nikkor lens serial numbers ??

does anyone know if the serial numbers of a nikkor lens are logged with the retailer or Nikon uk when a lens is sold to a customer ??
the reason i ask is that i am looking to buy a second hand Nikon AF-S 70-200mm G 2.8f IF lens and wanted to do some checks to see if its all legite !! and not stolen .

i know you can register the serial number with Nikon when you get a lens/camera just wondered if it is logged on first sale. ?

You could always contact Nikon & ask them....

As long as you pay via paypal you'll be covered for the purchase thru ebay... There are online "equipment" sites that sell these used if your that worried about it..

it was more an enq into if the serial numbers are logged to a sale so it could be checked more than anything !!

Have a look in the Nikon classified thread as there's usually one that pop's up every now & then...

If your still looking for a 70-200mm vr there's one in the Nikon sales thread Nikon 70-200mm VR - It would be your best bet than going thru ebay...
