Nikon 1 J1 - equine photography?

Hi complete beginner....
I've just received a Nikon 1 J1 with 2 lenses for christmas, 10-30mm & 30-110.
I as wondering what lens would I need for this camera to photograph Horses in action, it's nothing professional but would like the quality to be as good as possible without too much complication as I'll be using the photos on websites & selling advertisement. Not sure if this camera is good enough to photograph this type of stuff?
I was hoping for the canon 60D...think santa got a bit mixed up!

Also, I love to take photos of my children/nieces/nephew....and my sister has a sony camera with a 'soft skin' effect setting which make the photos amazing....was wondering if there's any similar setting to this on the nikon 1? or any lens for this?

It'll be fine with that sort of photography most likely as the continuos AF mode is pretty decent and the AF system as a whole is state of the art. The smart photo selector function would also be pretty neet for fast moving horses tbh as you'll always have a decent shot using that function. The only downside to the camera is the battery life, so make sure you have a spare or two if you intend on shooting for a few hours!

The 30-110 is the lens I'd use for most situations btw.

Not entirely true. The AF may be decent in good light, but in poor light (when a lot of horse action takes place, indoors) it switches to contrast AF and the Nikon J1 suffers at this. Combined with the smaller sensor inside for show jumping etc, it won't perform too well.

For outside use though it should be fine.
