i have just inherited a Nikon 14-24 lens although obviously delighted i am also unsure if i will make good use of it.

My question is i can see you are unable to use filters, however will any type of filter kit fit this, has anyone tried it and if so what were the results?

Also can anyone give me an idea of how good the lens is on a D700 for landscapes, as i have no camera here to test it as yet as still looking for a used D700 having sold my kit

From what I've seen the 14-24 and D700 is a great combination for landscapes. As for filters, LEE filters (since they are larger) and blutack was a solution, you just have to watch for light hitting the back of the filter and going into your lens.

I'm sure I read this somewhere on flickr

My dad bought one last week and was worried about the inability to fit even a protective UV filter. We went out on Friday and dropped it right onto the front element!!!

Bit scratched on the hood and a small mark on the front grass :9

I know it down't answer your question, just wanted to air my disappointment!

thanks Guys, it is a weird looking lens and not something i would have brought, sorry to hear about your dads slip but i can see what you mean it has little protection.

Puzzled by this post just google the lens and you will find masses of info on it and yes its a fantastic lens on the D700 and for real close portrait images its amazing.
Or if your unsure send it to me as a back up to my one..

depends if you are into making your subject look like a mutant ;)

I did once shoot a bridesmaid with a 17-40mm but she was tiny (4 years old) and I was on the floor shooting up so it worked OK :)

So do I, just not my brides looking freaky ;)

Seriously though - fill a frame with a 14-24, and then do the same with an 85 or 105.

Hell, you know this anyway!
