Am using the 24-70 Hsm version with my d7000, love this focal length, but would like a lens with better picture quality and weather seal. The tamron is rather tempting, with VC and good reviews when tested in dx and almost the same price new compared to a second hand nikon 24-70. Any advice?

The tamron is not weather sealed to the same degree as a nikon and the 17-55 is better suited to a crop camera like the d7000, than the 24-70.

I prefer the 24-70 focal range though, but it has so many bad points and good points at the same time.... Guess I will give the nikon 17-55 a try... Anyone tried the tamron 24-70 by any chance?

It may be stating the obvious, but doesn't the 17-55 on a crop sensor camera like the D7000 work out to about the same angle of view as the 24-70 on a full-frame camera? Roughly 26-82 if my math is correct. Or did you want the angle of view that the 24-70 would give on a crop factor camera (roughly 36-105mm)?

sorry, was not clear enough... I prefer the 24-70 lens on my D7000, which means its 36-105 focal length on full frame
