Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 vs Nikon 28-70 f/2.8

Besides the 4mm, is there any major differences in build quality / IQ etc between the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 and the Nikon 28-70 f/2.8? :shrug:
 
Some will claim the 24-70 is slightly better because of the new technology and nano coating etc.

I use the 28-70 f2.8 because i got it for cheap second hand and the optic is pretty much same in my eyes. Lots of review claim the 28-70 perform pretty much the same.

The older 28-70 is abit heavier and chunkier compare to the 28-70.

The 4mm will make a different if you into wide angle or that kind of stuff but for my purpose its ok and i love my 28-70 alot, the lens glue to my camera 90% of the time now.

as said th 24-70mm is newer tec and has extra coatings, but as for sharpness and image quality there is nothing in it, as for build the 28-70mm in my op is better built, but the 24-70mm as weather sealing, 28-70mm can be picked up for about £550/700 depending on condition and the 24-70mm about £900/950 2nd hand, also the 24-70mm i remember seeing somewhere suffers from light leek.

Ditto on what was said above. Both great lenses. You can save money if you can do without 4mm.
 
i got my 28-70 in here for around 525 and i feel i got a bargin and love the lens everytime i use it.

Is my first nikon pro lens too :)
 
Thanks everyone! Think ill prob look at getting a 28-70 then. I've got a Nikon 10-24 for my wide shots so dont think I'll miss the extra 4mm of the 24-70
 
For what its worth I would take a 24-70 every time. Yes its more expensive but I preferred the sharpness and rendition of the 24-70 on a D3x...superb!
 
I've got the 28-70mm on a D700 and what a lens it is!

Bit heavier and bigger than the 24-70mm. I've never seen the need to upgrade to the 24-70mm to be fair as apart from Nano coating and slight improvements haven't seen the point. That's just me though
 
i've had a 28-70mm lens before, so taking the 4mm on the 24mm is a personal preference weighing up the cost.
 
b****r all between them except you could probably hammer nails in with the 28/70 :D
I used the 28 version on a D3 and swapped with my mate for his 24-70 halfway through a shoot and honestly you couldn't tell which was which
