Nikon 24-70 f2.8 or or Nikon 70-200 f2.8

Hi Guys,

I was wondering in getting one of the lens menytioned above but i don't know which one is more appropriate for my photograpghy.

I shoot mainly studio portrait and wedding.

Has anyboby used them and can give me advise please.

At the moment my kit consist of nikon d90 as backup and D300 as main.
Lens are nikon 50mm f1.8 and sigma 18-50DC f2.8 + the standard nikon lens kit 18-105.
The lens kit work well for studio but wedding and outdoor shot aren't always good
 
If you straightly saying about the stuff you shoot i will go for the 24-70 f2.8 any day simply because thats the lens you will be using 90% of time for most stuff.

My Nikon 28-70 f2.8 pretty much glued on my D7000.

Since you have the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and if you find it ok to use then the 70-200 f2.8 maybe a good option for you and then you can sell the nikon 18-105 kit lens.

if you already have an 18-50, assuming that you're happy with it and don't intend to go full frame in the near future, then i would definitely plump for the 70-200..
 
is the 70-200 not full frame?
I'll like to have a D700 when i win the lottery:)
 
Hi, I have both lenses and a nikon d300s, they are both fantastic lenses. On a d300 body for weddings the 24-70 2.8 every time, you will be able to shoot nearly everything. Tha 70-200 2.8 is much better for lovely blur backgrounds, candid shots but not flexable on a d300. Also I use the 24-70 2.8 in the studio and it's amazing hope this helps.

What the other poster meant was since you have the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and assuming you happy with the lens and you not planning to go full frame in the near future then use the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 and buy the 70-200 f2.8.

The Nikon 70-200 f2.8 is a Full Frame Lens but the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 is not Full Frame.

If you happy with the performance of your Sigma 18-50 f2.8 then buying the Nikon 70-200 f2.8 makes sense, since the FOV on your Sigma is similar to the 24-70 f2.8 on a Full Frame Body.

Using the 24-70 f2.8 on your crop body you will loose the wide end.

Again if you planning to go full frame in the future and you unhappy about the sigma performance then the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 is the way to go.

or

If you not planning to move full frame for a good while and you happy with the sigma 18-50 performance then buy the Nikon 70-200 f2.8

or

You not planning to move full frame and you unhappy with the sigma then buy the 24-70 f2.8 or even think about the Nikon 17-55 f2.8 (DX lens)

Now I have all my answer and can start thinking of what to buy with good sugestion
 
i was on the same boat couple of months ago but it make it easy for me since i got a sigma 70-200 f2.8 hsm2 and i happy with that.

I went off and got the Nikon 28-70 f2.8 (older version) to replace my 18-70 kit lens. I know i will loose the wide end but i don't use wide angle alot anyway so i can live with that and i also know i will move to full frame soon too.
