Nikon 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 anyone?

Has anybody used this lens? For a general/walkabout lens, how does it compare to the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8?

Just curious if it's worth the upgrade. I like the Tamron, but I don't love it. I find that for everyday photography the difference in the image quality between that and the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 is huge.

I realise it's unfair to compare a zoom with a prime, but still.
 
if you dont love the Tamron 28-75mm then youve got a bad copy, the Nikon 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 is superb, sharp wide open and a better range than the Tamron, but if you need f/2.8 then obviously it's no good.
