Considering the above lens. Does anyone have it and can provide a review for me?

I'm looking for something "walkabout" for holidays. For example, i'm off to Australia next month to visit my big sister so looking for something to suit trips to zoo, walkabouts of cities. Lenses like the 24-70 and 70-200 2.8's just aren't an option for my travelling.

I have one. Bought it specifically for when I could not carry a lot of lenses or when going on hols/away.

Pretty compact, sharp enough, great zoom range, VR works well. The zoom lock switch is pretty handy. It is a jack of all trades, but a very good one.

Thanks, that's very useful. Which body do you use it on?

700 and 300, on the crop it is fine,on the FF you have to take the hood off when shooting wide.

I`ll try and dig some shots out for you.

Pretty sure this is one, Mrs Frac took it up in Scotland.

I have one also and concur with Ade's opinion. Use it on my D800E and previously on a D700. I am often on walkabouts when I have my camera and the 28 - 300 is the lens I have mounted when doing that.
If you carry the camera with the lens pointing down the barrel will zoom out (minor niggle) unless you lock it or take other precautions.
Reports suggest that sharpness falls off at the 300mm end of it's range, but I cannot say I have noticed it.

I have some unprocessed landscape shots from Harris that I know were taken with this lens, i`ll sort a couple out over the weekend.

Friend of mine has one that I borrowed for a while, it's a great all rounder, solid build, decent sharpness. In the end I bought the 18-300 as it came out right when I was looking to buy and is a much better match for DX. Top lens.

If the 18 - 300 was a full frame lens it would probably push the 28 - 300 out of the market. That would be a very versatile zoom range.

I think i'll get one ordered for the end of the month. Some really nice shots there. It will be D700 i'll be using it on as a replacement for my 24-120.

I got one, like it a lot a good walkabout lens, had some good shots from it thought all its range.

Using mine on an D700 & D3 :)

I had one on a D700 and it is an excellent lens - totally different class to the other superzooms around.

Image quality looked very good throughout the range and I was very impressed at the long end where a lot of these type of lenses go soft.

Finally got around to ordering it. Hopefully the snow won't slow it down.
