As the title suggests, just trying to get some real life opinions on this lens, i have looked at what uncle ken has to say, but i do tend to take what he says with a pinch of salt, albeit he likes it, just sometimes his opinions are clouded, i wondered if anyone here uses one regularly, and if possible could post a varied selection of photos, ie landscapes portraits etc. I am toying with the idea of selling my 70-200mm vr and getting one of these, hence all the questions, many thanks :)

Keep the 70-200mm. I have both. The 28-300mm is good. It's a good allround lens, but it's not a 70-200mm 2.8.
I am considering selling my 28-300mm. So if you are determined to get one, keep an eye out.
By all means get the 28-300mm. But not as a replacement for the 70-200mm. As a holiday lens maybe. Like I did.

If it's the reach that you are after, get the new 2 x converter. Work great together.

Thanks Kev, i'm not really thinking of the 28-300mm as a replacement, and to be honest couldn't afford or justify both lenses, it's just that I've only used the 70-200m about twice since owning it, but i would like a decent zoom if i decide to sell, still undecided at the moment, i think i really need to be getting out with my camera more period, just to help me to decide. How do you find the sharpness of the lens compared to the 70-200m ? I've read it's very good, i wouldn't expect it to be as fast as the 70-200mm, but that's not really a consideration with the 28-300mm for myself, sharpness is though, so is their a world of difference ?

Sharpness isn't as good as the 70-200mm. It's just a 'convenient' lens. I would do as you suggest and get out with the 70-200mm and start pushing it. You will be impressed.
I fly out to Italy in a couple of weeks. I will probably take the 28-300mm. It makes a good holiday lens.

Thanks for posting Kev, those shots are impressive for that lens, considering they are moving objects. When you go on your hols maybe you could post some landscape shots taken with the 28-300mm when you get back, as this is what i may be using it for too (if i get one :)).

Terry I have one, but have not used it much. It is going to the Hebrides with me shortly where it will get used as i`m only taking that and my 500. I will gladly post some pics when I get back,if you like.

Thank frac, that would be great, would love to see photos from the Hebrides, that sort of place will really put the lens through it's paces landscape wise. I also just took a look at some photos in this Thread HERE from a while back, some nice shots, also forum member Inkiboo has some from the Taj Mahal on the same thread via flickr, they look very impressive.

Anyone else with this lens have anything to add ?

I got one not to long back, find it useful when i dont want to carry a lot of lens around.
The zoom does creep, but you can lock it on 28mm,i find it a good all round lens, but still keeping 24-70mm & 70-210mm :)
