Nikon 28-70 f2.8?

Looking for some options, probably the last time for a few years I have some cash to upgrade.
Exposure plot comes up will 90% of my shoots are between 30mm and 65mm. Mostly portraits in my home studio 3.5m x5.5m.
I have
D90
S2pro
Sigma 28 135
Nikon 50 1.8 d
Nikon 18 105 kit lens
Nikon 55-200 vr (not used much)


Looking at D7000+ Nikon 28-70f2.8 ( limit of budget ) or sh D700 + 3rd party 2.8 similar range

Or D7000+ 3rd party 2.8 similar range + some bit for the studio

Any other ideas or thought would be very welcome

DO you shoot natural light much? Just wondering, do you need 2.8? You say most of your shooting is in studio, with lighting?

You have a lot of cross overs in focal length already, a 28-70 is just going to muddle that up more. You already have your preferred 30-65mm range covered, twice, plus the 50mm in there too and the shorter end of the 55-200!

Maybe sell off the 28-135, you really don't need it if you buy a 28-70. You could sell on the 18-105 too. Maybe look at the Nikon 17-55 2.8? A cracker of a lens on DX, probably the best short zoom you can buy for DX.

The 28-70 is a belting lens with top notch image quality, so it'd make sense as an upgrade and to sell the lenses that cover the same range and just have this lens.

It is a big heavy lens though, especially on a D700. It's known as 'the beast' for a reason!!!

Buy the 28-70mm. You won't regret it.

Looks like I will go will the 28-70

2.8 would give some shallow ish DOF

D7000 as the d700 + 28-70 would cost just a bit too much and not much gain

Sell the s2pro and the 28-135, bit to spend on the studio

Keep the d90 + 18-105 for back up / walk about
