Cant make my mind up which to get as i may upgrade to full frame sooner or later?
Any thoughts anyone?
 
Why not buy the 1.8 now s/h, then sell it when you go full frame? (you won't lose much, if anything)

It's a cracking lens - I've got one :thumbs:
 
I don't like the way that the 35/1.8 has been "dumbed down".

It does not even have a basic distance or dof scale so is really only aimed at the "auto everything" consumer market.
 
I've got both, the f1.8 lives on my D60 as a standard lens and the f2 lives on my D700 as a wide angle.

I would say the 1.8 is sharper, is less prone to flare and has full time manual over ride. I would get the 1.8 for your D90 and then sell it (or even keep it) if you upgrade whilst keeping an eye out for a bargain f/2 (their 2nd hand price varies wildly for no apparent reason).
 
The 1.8 is a stunning optic for the money. It will work on ff too, but you have some vignetting to deal with on post. Past f5.6 ish its severe.
 
Thanks for the info, i was thinkin the 1.8 would probably be the way to go especially as its £100 less than the f2 i could always sell it on wjth my D90 when i upgrade.
I intend to use it doing street and photojournalist style phofography,for some reason this is really appealing to me at the minute!
 
It's razor sharp wide open too. I rarely use lenses wide open as IQ drops, but not with this baby.
 
The 35mm f1.8 is a cracking lens and i always use it as well. Very sharp wide open but i usually use it between 2.8-4 for even better sharpness.

Only downside like above have mention it doesn't have the DOF and Distance scale ..... i was shooting in manual focus shots and decide to use this lens, after i mount it on i then realise it don't have those scale which kinda stuff me up really but either way this is a cracking lens when use auto focus.
 
Only thing that bothered me about the AF-S lens, was chromatic aberration. Mind you that was on a D40 and Fuji S5, so maybe the newer bodies compensate for this already.
 
CA is really a non-issue with Lightroom. :)
 
Ok so it looks like the dx lens is the way forward!
Hopefully santa will come thru this year ;-)

U see thats another issue why is a more modern lens with a motor built in and slightly fast £100 less than the f2 version? Is the build quality simply not there.


Sorry santa i'll be a good boy honest! Lol

IQ is way more important than build quality to me.

I'd say it appeals to a larger market. Demand - price.
