Nikon 50mm f1.8

I was wondering, what do people who own a 50mm f1.8 mm lens use it for mainly? I want to get the most use out of it as I can. I have a nikon d3100.

Low light and shots for stitching as panoramas. On a crop body you might be better off with a 35mm, although the 50mm will probably have less distortion.
 
The other reason is that they are generally very sharp and on a full-frame body will see a similar perspective to the human eye (or very close to it) there is a big discussion on this elsewhere on this forum.
 
When I got my hands on 50mm 1.8 it was a blessing for me, since it was so sharp and could shoot in such a low light.

I was using it to get the nicest looking bokeh as well.
 
On a D3100 i would suggest 35mm f1.8g instead. I got a 35mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.8 when i shoot in both DX camera and the 35mm always get use compare to the 50mm. On a FF body, the 50mm is good.
 
What I need to do is take lots of close up shots of people at work for publications but don't want much in the background and what is in the background needs to be as blurry as possible a) to cut out the mess/notices on the wall etc and b) the person needs to be as clear as possible. I thought the 50mm gave the best blur.

In that case I'd suggest looking at the 85 1.8g. Hard to beat for that type of work.
