Any opinions about the merits of the NIKON 70-200 VR2 over the VR1? merv:thinking::thinking:

I had the vrI and now have the vr II. The gains are definitely worth it in my opinion.

I think if, like Kev you're photographing very fast-moving subjects in variable light, then yes the VR II is worth it.
If, like me your subjects are people, then the VR I is more than adequate.
I've actually been using an old 80-200 non-VR lens for the past four months as well and it was fine...
It is nice to get my own lens back though...

The VR1 is cracking, I have always been really pleased with mine... as such the VR2 and 500-800 quid (depending where you shop) price difference really can't be justified - thats the cost of the 24-70 I want!

VR is absolutely no use to me whatsoever, so improving on it for me is a waste of time.

Absolutely spot on Rob! I loved my vr I but the speed of the focus on the vr II and the fact that I can bolt on the new 2 x converter and be confident of sharp images still, just does it for me. :)
I think if I had been shooting people, I would have stuck to the vr I. But having said that, the vr II does have a lovely bokeh.
