Thinking of swapping my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 (Mk II) for this lens, for the extra length and VR. Will I miss the wider aperture of the Sigma? Is the Nikon a better lens? Views appreciated.
 
Optically it's not better, you'd get better results by adding a 1.4X converter to the sigma than you'd get with the nikkor, that only gets you to 280mm , adding a 2x TC would get you to 400mm f/5.6 with a slight drop in quality over the 1.4x combo but it'll still be better than the 80-400mm IMO
 
I'd be happy if the t/c solution was as good if not better. Cheaper too! Thanks.
