I have just taken the plunge and brought this, now sitting here awaiting it's arrival wondering if i did the right thing?

I have read so many reviews all seem to be very positive apart from distortion at 16mm to 20mm f4 to f8. i was never going to buy the 14-24 as i like to use filters and was never going to buy a Lee filter holder just for it.
17-35 was an obvious alternative but all the reports on the VR and sharpness of the 16-35 swung it for me.

Just wondered if anyone else has brought one at if so your thoughts so far?

Look forward to seeing the results.

This is supposedly the first of Nikon's budget (ie non F2.8) lens and I'd love to hear what you think to it.

All the best

Hmmm it arrives tomorrow and i am sure the weekend will be spent trying it out, Ryan i hope the feel and results are anything but Budget at over £900 i would call it the new pro range with VR not F2.8, but time will tell.

My hope is i can get away with more hand held landscapes as i dont always want my tripod slung over my shoulder for the whole day.

I have one of these and love it.

Hand held razor sharp at 1/8th every time, 1/4 most of the time.

FYI 1/4 second on f/4 @ ISO 4000 will give you useable night time landscapes, it's pretty surreal.

Sharp all over, cant fault it in any way.

By budget I just meant it's not 2.8. Canon do quite a lot of F4 lenses so I think this is Nikon's answer to that part of Canon's line up. I seem to recall reading Nikon were thinking of introducing more lenses in this fixed F4 range. Something to compete with Canon's 24-105 or the 70-200 F4 might be next......

It's most certainly sharp that's for sure, not had much of a chance to play with it at the mo, too busy chasing bloody foxes LOL.

Sample of a few test shots.

Grant thank you for the pics, that has made me feel better and maybe ill get some sleep tonight now i have seen how sharp it is and colour looks very healthy too.

Ryan i hope you are right as i was a canon man and had the 24-105 and 70-200 f4 and liked both but the 70-200 was obviously non IS but as sharp as anything.

I have been working away from home since joining on here so had little time to post.
I am now working locally and hope to use this site more and more so look out for some shots of the 16-35 soon.
