nikon battery life indicators?

IIRC, it was the charge state indicator that needed the firmware fix rather than the battery life indicator. I also have a feeling that the battery life can be though of in terms of hundreds (if not thousands) of charge cycles, so if on average you get 500 shots from a battery between charges, and guessing at 200 or more charges before the battery life indicator starts noticing a drop in performance, that's 100,000 shots. That's possibly a bit optimistic but it should be in the tens of thousands.
I have an EN-EL3e that was sent to me as a replacement for a possibly dodgy EN-EL3 that came with my D70 several years ago. It's still my main battery in my D700 and has probably been charged 100 or more times over its life and still reports as in as new condition in my D700 as it did in my D200. I try never to run it down to exhausted and charge it in the Nikon supplied charger most of the time (not sure what difference that makes but I assume it is set up for an optimum charge rate without using too much current).
