Bought a Nikon Coolpix S225 from Jessops this morning and took some pictures this evening in the house. Considering it's a 10MP compact, expected decent results but found many pictures grainy. I was wondering if I made a bad purchase or if the camera may be faulty? :gag: When I had checked the reviews, they said some good things about it.

Has anyone used the above camera and had good/bad experience?

Returned it to Jessops and surprisingly it was a painless return
Stay away from s220/s225 :gag:

I'd imagine any compact camera would give you pretty similar results, 10mp crammed onto a tiny sensor is never going to be a recipe for noise-free pictures...

Lesson Learnt. :|

This is from my 10mp compact and I don't think it's that bad! They have their uses eg. having one in the pocket when the DSLR and lenses might be at home.

lovely pic waspjunior! Out of interest, what compact do you have?

Thanks for the compliment klc_001, it was from my Leica D-Lux 4 which is just a Panasonic LX3 with a few physical external and firmware differences.

Thanks too Venomator, I seem to remember you influencing my decision to get one! (Leica) It was the best thing I ever did and really re-kindled my flagging interest in photography.
I think compacts have a great future and are today producing images that are more than satisfactory for most snapshot/family type purposes. But obviously not all compacts are born equal as the OP found out.

Phew... ...that is really good to know and at least the decision has turned out fine for you... :D

My Safari Special has recently turned up after selling my original D-Lux 4 earlier in the Summer... ...I really missed it and am well pleased to have one once again...

TBH I have taken more pics and have more interest in togging once more now I can take the Green togging machine out with me wherever I go...
