Hello, Im getting back into photography after a break of a few years, and have bought two Nikon D1x's (didnt want two, but that was the offer:)).

I last used a D1 with manual focus micro nikkors and also bellows and enlarger leses so know nothing about dx and vr lenses as they were not available at the time.

So can anyone tell me, do the lenses with built in motors work on the d1x?
do they use the lens motor or the camera motor? I'd like to start off by buying a basic "Kit" type zoom as i still have a 55mm micro nikkkor.

Thanks for any advice, Tim.

Hi Tim - any Nikon lens will work, as for the AF/s and AF/d, both should AF as far as I am aware?

The old AF-D len's will work on the D1x, I would think the DX len's will work but not sure as when I had my D1x I only had AF-D.

Dx lenses work fine. Canon I ask, how did you find the D1? I fancied this at the time because of its faster drive mode, btu swayed to the 1x for the better sensor. :)

Freudian slip Lawrence? ("Canon I ask...")

Wow, thanks for the speedy replies!

As regards the D1, I bought it new (last century:)) to see what it was like, and to see if it could replace the F4's that we were using and then scanning the film. I was very happy with the results, but it was barely used outside, and ,as hardly anyone else made a digital slr (Kodak was a lot more money) we didn't have a point of reference.

I'm still finding my way around the D1x but I love the look of the image, to my eyes, very smooth, filmlike quality, it would be interesting to try a modern, i.e not ten years old slr:).

I'd still like to know if the dx lenses use the cameras motor or the inbuilt lens motor?

Thanks again, Tim.

If the lens has a motor, that's the motor that gets used - the electrical contacts worry about all that...

I just donated mine to my Brother and we checked it out with all my lenses - everything works fine...

Batteries: they don't last very long - get more.

Thanks for that, I've ordered two more batteries and will now look for a lens:thumbs:
