Nikon D3 vs Nikon D700 focus?

Hi, I know these cameras above share the same sensor and I know that they both have the 51 auto focus system but do they have the same focus speed and accuracy? I would interested to hear from people that have used both cameras? Thanks

I've got both and the D3 definitely feels faster and more responsive, quicker to lock on when AF'ing. Not done any scientific tests but I use both regularly and the D3 feels like it's got a bit more grunt under the hood.

This. It is one of the differentiating factors between the two bodies.

Just checked it you are right it is 15. Can't remember where I got 9 from.
 
I wonder if the AF-assist illuminator has anything to do with it? Otherwise, looking at the specs from the Nikon site I can't really see why other than say the shutter lag difference but can't see how that would effect focusing (unless continuous shooting perhaps?)

Ah, I think it must have been here where I saw the focus point error.
