Nikon D300 Focus Screen

Hi, I've been playing with an old manual focus Nikon 50mm AIS on my D300 over the past few days and am enjoying the experience greatly, apart from the fact that it's a little hit and miss whether I hit the focus point every time - especially at F1.8.

So, to my question. Does anybody have any experience of the cheap (£20ish) focus screens available on ebay? Are they any good compared to the likes of KatzEye (£100ish), which is at the moment out of my budget.

This MF lark is really quite addictive, and I now see why I enjoy picking up my old Olympus OM10/Nikon EM and just focusing at random things in the house, I always thought it was the oldy worldy feel of the cameras, but no, I've just realised it's the hands on interaction that I've been missing with my AF lenses. This could quite easily get out of hand, I've already started lusting over Voigtlander and Zeiss lenses...

I guess it's probably a case of you get what you pay for...

I used one on my then, D300.. worked ok, but didn't like it,all the time, so changed it back..
its a very grainy image, when looking through the view finder, takes some getting used to ...mark.

Thanks Mark, I think I'll just wait a little longer and save up for a Katzeye or one of these
