Nikon D300/s on FX

I'm looking to get a third body for my camera kit and was wondering if anybody had any experience of using a Nikon D300 or D300s on FX lenses, especially the Nikon 16mm Fisheye?

I'm looking to use this camera predominately as a remote camera for sports and ideally looking to have the 16mm Fisheye attached to it 95% of the time.

Budget won't go as far as a 2nd hand D700 or D3 so this is my next best option.
 
Do you specifically want a fisheye, or just a wide lens? Personally, on a D300 I'd go for the 10.5mm DX every time if it's the traditional fisheye look you want. Much cheaper too...
 
I already have the Fisheye for my D3s and D700. I would like to know whether it would work on the D300/s
 
A quick google says it will work fine. But with less distortion, if that's the effect you're after?
 
Apart from one kit lens (an 18-70), all my lenses have been FF compatible because I used film until I could afford a D700. They have all worked perfectly well with the Dx bodies I have had. My 8mm fisheye (Sigma) which gives a full circular image on FF and 35mm has a bit cropped off the top and bottom of the circle when used on Dx.

It wasn't clear that you currently own the lens ;)

as said, 16mm will be wide(ish) with less of the fisheye distortion you'll be used to on your full-frame bodies. AF and metering will be fine.
 
Would a 16mm fish eye not look a bit stange on dx??

Just wondering because it's wide but not THAT wide. I'd have though something around the 8-12mm mark would look suitable for a dx fisheye??

Do you not think the dx should be used for the reach rather than the wide shots??

I used a Sigma 14mm on my DX bodies for a few years and it was ace, just had enough of a fisheye look for it to be useful compared to the wide end of my 17-55mm.
 
Thanks for all the replies all. I don't really want to buy another lens, ideally I'm looking for a DX that I can use as a remote for sports action and have my fisheye attached too. Primarily as a remote behind a goalmouth.

A DX would be handy for the extra reach on my telephoto at times. I'm not overly bothered on losing some of the distortion or the fisheye effect, I was just wondering on what a Fisheye on a DX actually produces. Although wide on a FX I can't imagine that 16mm on a DX is super-wide albiet for the 10.5mm

If anyone has any photos they have taken using this combination I would be very interested in having a look.
 
If you want to know what it looks like on DX, then take a shot on FF and just crop it down to 1.5x format. There's your answer exactly.
