Nikon D3X versus Hasselbald H3D39 which one ?

What are you wanting to photograph with them? The hasselblad is very slow and not exactly the lightest piece of kit, it also has a very low iso range only up to iso 400 IIRC

Saying that they're lovely cameras, super sharp and amazing image quality

But all that said there is a huge cost difference to take into account, if you're shooting landscapes you'll want the 28mm lens which is 3k on its own, add that to the minimum of 13k price tag for the camera kit (or 20k for the multishot one) and that's a lot of cost difference just for a sharper image.
 
having done a reasonable amount of reserch into medium format digital... (not that i can afford one, i just spend quite a large amount of time fantasising about them... :p ) at low iso, with the same focal length/same apature, it will out perform the nikon..... however..... any rise in iso - even 200/400, and the nikon will have the advantage.... so i guess it really depends what your shooting :) (thats not even taking int account size/handling, lens ranges etc etc)
 
As the others have already said, it depends on what you are shooting. I spent yesterday morning 24 floors up the outside of a building, would not really want to take a Hassy up there. I was inside/outside/inside all day and my ISO was going from 100-1250 and anything in between.

So subject matter/ISO and portability would be my considerations.

Then I'd buy a Hassy anyway because they are just gorgeous! :)

I didn't think of the D3x, but had my eyes set on a Hassie as I'm in to landscapes big time. Thought of buying the Hassie along with a couple of lens and the tilt-shift; whole set-up comes to a good amount of ££,£££! !!

I've asked around, and everywhere I went I was pushed down the D3x route. Nothing I said made anyone suggest I go with the Hassie; was I searching for an approval to push my guilt :shrug:?

My plans were to buy into digital medium format at the end of 2010; to give me ample time to study the whole idea and digest the cost issue.

In the end I realised that I am just not ready for the Hassie. I'm happy to spend the amount on touring the world with a good D3x and D700 instead :)

Does this rule out the logic of buying a Hassie? Not at all, it's just how I've come to accept where I am at right now.

So, for the timebeaing, this is on a hold until further notice. Threads like this, of course, don't help my finances a lot. Brings back the urge :nono:
 
Don't forget there's still the rumour of the Nikon medium format digital out there so who knows what the future will bring...
 
I've got a H3D-31 here at work and have used a D3X before. Just to re-iterate what everyone else is saying; It depends entirely on what you are shooting and what you aims are. In almost every situation, I would personally go for the D3X. It has more features, is lighter, faster, better high ISO and has use of a much wider range of lenses and accessories. The Blad however is great if you are using controlled lighting and require huge image files. And since I can get a print that is 40"x32" (Or thereabouts) that I am happy with out of a 12MP camera, the 31MP (or 39MP in the case of the H3D39) means very very big prints.

I wouldn't rule them out, but those rumours have been going for ages. If Nikon did bring out a MX format, they would also have to make new lenses with enough covering power to support the format, so it could be a long wait until a full system was in place.
