Hi, I have a nikon d40 with the 18-55mm lens that it normally comes with.
However my dad has several lenses (im 16 so its no weird that i want to use my dads lenses) that i would like to use.
However they do fit on, as in lock in...but they do not focus properly.
They are all nikon lenses, the main one i would like to use is a nikon 70-300mm.
If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just making sure we cover all the bases, have you made sure you haven't inadvertantly switched to 'MF' on the lens itself while changing them?

Are your Dad's lenses AF-S ones? Your D40 needs AF-S (or equivalent) lenses to autofocus since it doesn't have a focus motor built into the body. You can still use the older AF-D and AF-G lenses with your D40 but you'll have to manually focus them (and MF isn't that easy with plain screens and short focus throw lenses).
