Nikon D40 question

Relax - it's a bit excessive to bump a thread the same day you posted it ;-)

I think the 400D was roughly equivalent but there's not really direct comparisons between the Canon and Nikon ranges, they occupy similar price brackets but introduce their products at differing times. Given how quickly features technology moves at the moment in digital cameras, there's very few direct comparisons between manufacturers, except on current market prices.

Why are you wondering it is very hard to compare really but I don't think anything at the time it was as well regarded on the Canon's range. D40 was quite an amazing camera given the size/price at the time.

I would have compared the 400D more to the D40x or D60, and if anything the closest Canon to the D40 around the time would more likely be the 350D.

The D40 was a dumbed down, lower spec model that proved successful and probably led to the eventual launch of the 1000D.
