Nikon D800 36MP??

The rumours seem to be getting stronger about a 36mp d800 camera that will replace the amazing d700.

My question is mainly to all the d700 owners: Do you really need all that Oomph in the megapixel side of things. And also will the Pro Nikkor glass be upto speed with resolving that level of detail ?

i would rather have high iso over mps.
its like wehn people say i got the 5dmk2 beacuse it has double the resoloution, it might well do but can you realy see the difference.

My 24MP A77 is substantially sharper than my 12MP A700, so yes, I believe it'll make a difference. However, like my A77, you may not get much more detail than the earlier model at isos above 1600.
BTW, hHow did you equalise the sizes of these two images? Did you uprez the D700 or downrez the 5D-II? If you downrezed the 5D-II that's cheating.

It does matter printing very large, and it does matter for some agencies and employers. Some require 16+ mp uninterpolated... apart from that D700 is perfectly adequate already. But if they get a version without AA filter it would be really special.

Upscaled the d700 to match the canon, so i didn't cheat.

Really? It sounds like fanboy wishful thinking to me. Simple physics dictates diffraction affects critical sharpness before anything else at 36mp. Which agencies require 16+mp uninterpolated?
