Nikon D90 question

It's the other half's birthday fairly soon & I think a replacement for her Canon Sureshot might be on the cards. I've been looking at the prices/specs of second hand D90's (around the £400 mark) & my thinking is that she could use some of my lenses as needed which might save money in the long run. She mainly uses her camera for taking shots of her jewellery which she makes & sells on her website plus the occasional holiday snaps.

I've looked at specs & prices for Nikon D40's/70's/80's etc but the D90 would seem to fit her requirements.
Just wondered if anyone has any thoughts or comments about my possible choice & whether there might be a better option for the price.

If it's just 'general' photography, most of the Nikon low-mid end cameras will do just fine. It's the glass on the front, and perhaps lighting - especially for the jewellery - that you should probably think about. Holiday snaps will probably be more than fulfilled with the kit lens IMO.
 
If you've a proper macro lens and some flash equipment it makes sense, if not then a decent compact would probably do the job just as well as they tend to have reasonable macro performance.

Also, try and think of HER, would she want to take it out and about, would she rather it fits in her hand bag, if you got her a D90 would it just sit in a cupboard gathering dust as she doesn't know how to use it (or want to spend the time learning)?
 
I ended up going for a TZ10 for my wife as she didn't want a big camera to carry round and bought the D90 for myself.
 
D90 would be the best option, but trying to get a second hand D90 at a good price seems hard.

I have been looking for one for a friend and if I add about £80-£100 pounds I could get a new one.

A fair few might be available second hand if a successor to the D700 comes out in the next few months - the jump from D90 to D7000 isn't worth it for a lot of people, but D90 to D800 is potentially worth it.

Classifieds on here might be a good place to look for a reasonable priced D90.....:whistling:

Careful now, you may just want to keep the D90 for yourself and give her the D700 ;)lol I love mine:) Seriously, I think she'd like the D90:thumbs: but if it was too much for her you'd probably get your money back.
 
Andysnap - yup I did notice the classifieds but wouldn't be making any purchase for a month or so. There are a few s/h ones on another popular trader site that I've seen so I have an idea what a decent used one will cost.

I think recent events may have put new camera models back a few months.
