I'm getting my Nikon D90 very soon (very excited about it !)
I have been looking for objectives on Amazon and I found quite a few that were interesting, in the box I get that len : Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens (http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-18-55mm...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230469513&sr=8-1)

Which is okay to get started and learn how to use it, but I'm looking for sharper lens, I like walk-around lens, I found a very affordable Tamron http://www.amazon.com/Tamron-AF17-5...4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240627089&sr=8-4

Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Lens with hood for Nikon-D DSLR Cameras

I'm looking for a good bokeh with my WA lens.

I'm also looking for a good telephoto, but I can't find any (good) lens which is affordable, I found the NIKKOR lens at 230$ ish, and also it's big brother at 1,230$ :S. There's no in-betweens really.

BTW I'm just an amateur, I do take shoots for music gigs, outdoor events, but I'm not doing it a big buisiness :).

My max budget would be 2200$ CAN, the Nikon d90 with the 17-55mm is 1400$ with taxes, so I got about 800$ CAN left a small lens kit.

Any reccomendations?
If it could be possible to have an ''okay'' telephoto, with a good walk-around, and a cheap macro lens for that price?

Max.

You could also look on Ebay for a Nikon 18-200mm VR it's a very popular lens, it would cover both wide & telephoto in one lens.

Why buy the kit lens? Just buy the body and put the money saved towards your WA. Personally I'd go for a prime lens, say the 50mm 1.4.

I was about to say the same thing.
If you buy the kit, you're never going to use the Nikon lens, buy the body only and the lens you want. Avoid doubling up on your focal lengths.

Cool,

Just checked some reviews, some people says the Tamron has some fiability issues, some people said it was terribly constructed? anyway I don't mind removeing the NIKKOR 18-55 VR from the kit for the Tamron if the results are very visible,

But actually what kind of lens should I look for if I want to be good for a lot of situations, I like to do outdoor photography in various events, maybe have a good stabilised lens, no need to have something incerdible for speed because I can MF fast enough, I rarely use AF.

I also do some macro work, I have a 16x16 lightbox with 2 softboxes and 2 small hard ligths, but I guess that a good 17-55 or a 55-200 would do?

I'm not really looking for a wide angle yet, not really usefull, I would get it only for the deformations it gives in close range, but I guess I can do the same with a fish eye, or photoshop or multiple shots.

So I made up my mind, a good walk-around 17-55mm, and a ''okay" telephoto, I might be getting the Nikkor 55-200, and if I can save enough for the sharper 77-200 maybe I would take the leap.

But what about the tamron lens? for a ''costumer lens'' I guess is good enough.
Max.

Well a good all rounder has to be the 18-200VR. Some people hate it, but it is actually very good. The question is, will you be satisfied with it's macro capability? It's good but not really close to a dedicated macro. Then that 70-200 will be in the back of your mind, like it is in mine.
Whenever you look at a do all, it's also a compromise all, so really it's up to you to decide.

Really sounds to me like you want to look at about 4 lenses:
1. Whichever wide zoom you decide on.
2. Something macro.
3. 70-200.
4. A do all walkaround... maybe?

I have 1 Tamron lens, but not the one you're looking at, I'm happy with mine, that's about as much help as I can be on that count.

well im gonna stick a big oar in here and say the lens i use with my D90 is more than capable as an okay telephoto lens. the nikkor 70-300mm g lens, should get in on ebay for around £80-£90 brand new from hongkong and with the D90 the Af is as good as the £400 VR version.

OMG, didn't noticed the 70-300 going for that low! WIll be picking this for sure to get me started.

I think I made up my mind,
I will buy the 17-55mm Tamron, and the 70-300mm.

in the long term I will get a macro lens to get that close-up defformation I want for more stylish portraits and cute animal shots.

Max.

In the UK the standard kit lens is the 18-105VR which is a very good everyday lens.

I use a nifty fifty for some stuff and tempted by a 70-300VR.
