Yes
Right i have a quick question for you.

I have a friend who is selling his dads camera equipment, he has a d90 d200 and a d300s.
He owes me a favour and said he can sort out a good price for the cameras, not that i will be buying all 3.

my question is, are they decent cameras?
i have a d5200 and wondered how they compare to it, im not interested in video and really only shoot landscape and my children.
i guess i dont actually need another but it would be nice to have a back up or one my daughter could use.

so out of the 3 which is the best and is it any good and i wont be disapointed?

cheers all

As above, the D300s is a very well built camera with nice ergonomics. The sensor is possibly not as good as the D5200 but everything else about it is better IMVHO. The D300s is a better camera than the D300 linked-to at snapsort, BTW.

yeah come to think of it im not totally sure it is the 300s, i will give him a ring to double check

There are a few reasons for changing to the d300/300s, they would be faster FPS, better AF, more/better AF points, front/back scroll controls (for altering aperture and shutter speed), built in AF motor to use older lenses that have no AF motor, 2 memory cards slots if it's the d300s.

It all depends what your use is, if it's only landscape and your children then the d300/300s probably wouldn't help you as much unless you shot sports/wildlife. It all depends on what price you can get it for, that's the big question whether it's worth it.

Ok so it is the d300s
its in near mint condition and only has just over 5000 on the shutter count

i lent him a few quid a while back and because of this has offered me the camera for £100, they are around £340 on MBP so i assume i will be getting a good deal.
thb i think i will buy it anyway as its good to have two ;-)

DO IT

OK thats great to know.
I will be keeping it, it was his dads camera and he was a nice fella but unfortunatly never got much time to use it so hopefully i can get some decent pics with it.

Just phoned my friend and give said i will take it but im gonna give him £220, for 2 reasons, one its still a good deal i think compared to MBP prices and it is very good condition and the other reason its all i have to spend, plus the only reason he is selling is to help pay for a good send off for his dad so will be nice to help out there as well.

now cant wait to get out there with it.

thanks for all the replies and help

Unless it has a MEGA shutter count or other major fault that is a bargain price. Ironically, I cannot check the prices that these go for on the Classifieds here ! If it is in good nick though £300+ is about right so you would, as mentioned, be getting a bargain.

Edit: I think out posts crossed in the ether.

what would you class as mega shutter count, and also what sort of life could one expect from these?
