I'm new to DSLRs and from what I understand, Nikon lenses are backwards compatible...right?

I have the opportunity to buy a fisheye lens that works with a Nikon 4500 and 995 - would this be compatible with my D90?

Also, does anyone know whether I can get converter kits for vintage Vivitar brand lenses for the D90? My Dad had some lenses that he used to use with his Canon AE-1, that I'd love to recycle somehow!

Thanks guys and gals!

The 4500 and 995 are both Coolpix swivel-body semi-compacts with a fixed lens, so what you'd be buying would be a wide angle adapter.

It won't work with a Nikon DSLR as it's not an F-mount lens.

And the Canon FD mount Vivitar lenses won't fit with any adapter on a Nikon body. The registration distance is incompatible.

Canon FD 42mm
Nikon F 46.5mm

= no room for an adapter (actually it would have to occupy -4.5mm) or you don't get to focus to infinity, or very far at all.

Any converter, if you could find or make one, would have to include optics, which will degrade the image.

Another non-starter, I'm afraid.
