Nikon SB-600 Good or Bad Buy?

It's a very good flash and not a bad price at all. It will work with Nikon's off camera flash system (CLS) with both of the bodies you mention.
 
Got one and it works perfectly every time.
 
It's a good flash but the sb-700 in terms of controls and ease of use is much better.

I agree, but it's also a fair bit more money. TBH, can't say I've seen that many SB-700s on the used market, although there is a glut of SB-800s these days...

OP - are you stuck to £150 or can you go higher?

I got one, had some batteries leak inside it so bought a SB900 as I needed one that day :( But then my good old SB600 cleaned up nicely with some surgical alcohol and all is fine, so now I have two and I won't sell my SB600, it is great...
 
I have two of these - already had one and picked up another one last year (as I had a wedding to do and needed a back up) on here s/h but in mint condition for £150. Never had a problem with either of them.

I have been using a Nissin Di622 as I couldn't afford a SB600 at the time, and although I couldn't fault it I have now bought an SB600 and I think it's great, as I've said on here before though the only thing I wish Nikon had done was to build in a piece of white plastic which lifts up to direct the light forward when using the gun straight up. I don't think you will be disappointed though, but have you considered getting one off here as I did for less than the £149 you mentioned ? I can't comment on the other Nikons mentioned.

That is where you have to go up higher in the Nikon product line. My SB900 does have that piece of white plastic...
 
I've used them, very good

The CLS can be a bit flaky at times. A lot more reliable with triggers
 
To be fair, those white flip-down tabs are designed as bounce cards to put a catch light in people's eyes when bouncing the light up or to the side. A piece of white card attached with a lacy band is as good...

Card & laccy band. That's a bit Pro isn't it?
Last time I did it I used a torn up sheet of A4 & some sellotape lol
 
Had one from new, trouble is its hard, on mine at least, to alter the menu settings. Now got the SB900 which is a lot easier and far more powerful.
