Hi all, Happy Christmas!

So, it seems the time has come for me to get a flash. I currently have both a D300 and a D300s, and probably won't be upgrading until a direct replacement is finally released. I guess I'm looking at either the SD700 or the SD910, but I've managed to get myself a bit, well, mixed up for which would be the better one to go for so would be really keen to hear your thoughts on them both?
 
Hi, I have a SB700 and a Yongnuo YN-560 iii (and a couple of D300s:)) and have to say, for what I use them for I'd be happy with one or two Yongnuos. I think I paid £250 for the Nikon flash and £50 for the Yongnuo.

Sb700 and 910 both great flashes. I've got both and a pair of yonguo 565ex's ?
All depends on what you'll use them for the nikons will do HSS on your cameras. That's important for me as the two other flashes don't.

My sb 910 does tend to live in my bag as there is little it doesn't do for me. But so it should for the price.

Give a sb 700 a go. S/h prices are around £165-175.
 
Check the guide numbers for power comparisons, I use the 910's but both will likely fit the bill. I use YN's as well, great value for the money, especially for OCF.
 
Thanks all. I went for the SB910 in the end, I figured that the higher power would be more useful to me. Just got to work out how to use the thing now!
 
Got two SB800s that have lasted me close to a decade and are still going strong.
 
I can't see you regretting an SB910 :)

There's plenty of places to read up on off camera flash (as well as on!) For me it was Syl Arena's book the Speedliters Handbook as recommended on here by plenty of people. It's written from a Canon users point of view but he explains the differences between the systems and as long as you've had a read through your camera and flash manuals beforehand you'll be fine. It did an excellent job of putting everything together in my head :LOL:

There's also a good online site that can teach you that everyone recommends, but at this moment in time the name escapes me so hopefully somebody will be along shortly to tell us :lol:

I second Syl Arena's book. A great read - forget the fact that some of it is Canon-y, it is one the best books for learning off camera flash and the mystic world of lighting. I am addicted.
The day you start your journey in lighting is when your pictures will become game changing. There are those that use light and there are those who are afraid of it......
