Yes
Lens is 300mm f4 IF-ED Nikkor
TC is 1.4E II Nikkor

Can anyone confirm compatibility, please.

I have been to Nikon's website for this and there apears to be a mistake.
Below is the header to the lens chart.

AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E II —NIKKOR Lens Compatibility

The following lenses may be used with the Nikon TC-14E III, some with noted functional limitations. NIKKOR lenses not listed cannot be used with the TC-14E III. The rear elements of NIKKOR lenses not listed can contact and damage the Teleconverter element and must not be attached. List includes current lenses along with lenses for which production may have ceased. Lenses that are no longer in production are shown only for your convenience as a compatibility reference!

The heading refers to the version II, but in the message body it refers to version III.
The 300mm F4 is among the list of lenses that are compatible, but is it with version II or III?

Is that the AF-S version of 300 you have? If so, then yes I have it and use it with the 1.4 TC EII; works great.

There is no such thing as a TC-14E III (yet). Nikon announced the TC-20E III a couple of weeks ago but it doesn't have any siblings yet.

Yes, that is the one.
Thanks for that. It has put my mind at rest.

Oh lovely, the 300 f/4 AF-S with the 1.4 TC E II; giving you a reach of 420 at f/ 5.6; that's still some pretty decent range.

Yes, that particular TC gets quite a bit of praise.
Not sure about those with greater magnification. I thought it wise not too far in that respect.

Maybe others on here who get good results with more powerfull TC's.

I will be getting the 1.7 TC EII, once it is available here, once I have that I will put it to the test.

However, I think I recall puddleduck (Andy) saying that the 300 f/4 AF-S became a bit soft with this particular TC. I will have a look and see if I can dig-up that thread.

Stewart mentioned the TC 20E III is coming out.
I think the date is 29th Jan 2010.
Be interesting to see what Nikon has achieved with that.

Hi Wail!

AFAIK, the only 'TC-17E' model that Nikon have ever made is called the TC-17EII and is the current model (since 2004). If they bring out a new 1.7x TC, that will (presumabley) be called the TC-17EIII, to match the latest 2x TC.

Confused? I am :D!

Sorry if my last post confused you :p

"available here", I meant in Saudi. Currently, Nikon Saudi are out of stock on these 1.7 TC EII; that's why I couldn't buy it, yet.

The one I had (1.7 TC EII), bought in UK, I have since sold it when I also sold my 70-200VR MkI.

Sorry buddy! Bad assumption on my part ;). I certainly didn't mean to come across as patronising in any way.

Not at all.

Speaking of 1.7 TC EII; seeing that Nikon have just announced the 2.0 TC EIII, I am sure they will be releasing the III series of their 1.4 and 1.7 TCs pretty soon too

May be worth waiting to see what comes in the next few months, especially as 2nd-hand market here in Saudi isn't as dynamic as it is in the UK.

I expect that they will bring out a MKIII at some point, but I can't wait forever :D ... I bought one last week and it should arrive in time for me to try it out with my new 70-200 :naughty:.

KR seems to think that the results are excellent, if you just stop down a further 1 1/2 stops . Hope he's right ;)!

Do post a review, if you don't mind. Would love to get "real world" input on how good this new iteration of an already great lens is; also when coupled with the 1.7 TC.
