Okay folks, I'm a bit confused ... not difficult at the best of times, but this is really making me scratch my (balding) head :thinking:

I've been using a Nissin Di622 (Mk1 version) for about 2 years now both on camera and off-camera using Youngnou CTR-301 wireless radio triggers. On Monday I set up my kit to take some pictures for a small project and the Nissin won't fire. Replaced the batteries (Eneloop) and no change - actually tried several sets of freshly charged batteries.

So, here's what I've done so far:

1. Tried the Di622 on the camera - fires every time
2. Tried the Di622 in three different triggers - dead
3. Tried my SB600 in the triggers - fires every time
4. Set the on-board flash in the camera to MASTER and Di622 to SLAVE to work in wireless IR mode - fires every time

So, what the heck am I missing here?

Suggestions (hopefully useful ones) on a postcard to ... confused of Bristol :shrug:
 
I had a similar problem with a Di622 MkI for a Canon. When it was on the camera it was flawless but when used with a radio trigger it was hit and miss at best. In the end I just used it as a slave in IR mode. I was as confused as you in the end so I sold it, specially when I got a 650D and it wasn't compatible anyway, and got a Di866 MkII instead. Never had a problem with it since and use it for allsorts both on and off camera.
 
Had a similar problem a while back with a Mark II and RF603's. Could not figure it out, then the problem went. I'm wondering if it was anything to do with the order I switched the devices on, so if you haven't tried that already... (in any case, don't ask me why that makes a difference).

I think I've decided to donate this flash to my grandson and get either another SB600 or maybe a newer Nikon speedlight.
 
Hi Steve, I've just had a trawl through the Nissin website and it looks like a firmware update might help the situation, but the update will have to be done by a retailer as it's not readily available. I emailed Jessops and London Camera Exchange when I had the problem and Jessops don't do it and I never got a reply from LCE.

The final nail in its coffin was when I bought the 650D for the wife and the flash wasn't compatible. The Di866 MkI is a cracker of a flash and works every time with anything I used it on. I ended up giving the wife the MkI to go on her 650D and I updated to a MkII and it makes a great pairing to my 580EX II.
 
If you want a firmware upgrade for the Di622 then it needs to be sent to Kenro, the distributor. They were very quick in turning mine round. For information the contact and address is :-

I have had a couple of syncing problems with my Youngnou triggers and Di622's. If for some reason they stop working, taking the batteries out of the Youngnou transmitter and receiver for a minute or so allows them to reset which normally works.

The other problem arises because the connections on the flash gun are easily moved out of line on the trigger, if you get a bit of fluff in the front of the trigger shoe it can make the contacts a bit intermittent.

Also the triggers get a bit unpredictable when the batteries get low.

Hmm, never thought of the battery in the receivers. They have been in them for about a year with pretty heavy use. The CTR-301 receivers have little LEDs that light up when they receive a signal from the transmitter (or you press the test button) and I kinda assumed that signifies everything was working properly but maybe not.

Looks like I'll be spending a bit more time experimenting tomorrow :D
