No LauncherOne, but I got Orion

Went out to Creeksea marshes last night, thought I'd have a good view of LauncherOne, but as we all know that's didn't go so well. While I was waiting though I got a couple of other shots that I was pleased with. The fisheye shot is my TTartisan 7.5mm F/2, and the other two were with the Samyang 12mm F/2.8, all on my X-T30.

Lovely images.
How do you find the samyang at 2.8? Do you get enough light in as I've been looking at f2.8 lenses as these seem cheaper. I dfid read somewhere that with a fast prime lens they are generally better a few stops up (I think) higher number?

Thank you :)

I've only really used it for nighttime stuff, and that's always on a tripod so I've had no problem with the amount of light I'm getting. I've just checked and F/2.8 is a mistake, it's actually F/2. I did take it out when I first got it, and in fairly heavy woods on a not-too-sunny day it was easy to get camera shake, but when I did nail it I was very happy with the results. This is the only shot from that day I saved:

I've found it to be very sharp even fully open, but I have read some reviews that say it's better stopped down a bit. It's not expensive though, I'd say it's definitely worth picking one up - especially now there's an auto-focus model, you should be able to get the manual version for not much at all.

Thank you. That's a stunning image from the woods. I have managed to purchase a Samyang 14mm f2.8 lens from mpb now for a good price. So hopefully I can get to try it out on the milky-way soon.

Cheers

HI @AstroNebulee - thought you might be interested in this: I used my Samyang 12mm for some scenery shots the other evening. Mostly at around F/4, all handheld, with no IBIS. I was very impressed with the sharpness, the richness of the colours, and also how easy it was to focus manually (I have a 7Artisans 25mm manual lens and it's very difficult to focus accurately).

Couple of shots here, but quite a few more on my Flickr if you want to see them. These are all straight out of camera jpegs:

These are superb images. The lens is a really capable beast indeed. The lake shots are really nice. I like how some of you images disappear into the distance making the image pop in your eyes in the foreground.
