Yes
Even though I'm completely happy with my two bodies, a 1DII and a 5DI, one's idle thoughts turn to upgrades.

For wildlife/action I regard my 1DII as a complete joy and top scorer in the VFM stakes.

So, I ponder instead the question of a possible upgrade from the 5DI which is my "grab it" body for general togging, portraiture, landscapes and playing with MF lenses. I love FF and wouldn't be without a FF body.

About a year ago I'd have said that the upgrade would have been to a 1DsIII. Of late however a chat with a pro singing the praises of the 5DII has caused me to think again.

Now I'm just confused as to how to make the upgrade choice between the following options:

  1. status quo (I am, after all, very happy with the 5DI)
  2. invest in a second 5DI and cherish it (if the 5DI still has cult status what's wrong with investing in one for the future?)
  3. replace 5DI with 5DII (all that video capability and a growing grandson - but how much would I actually use the video?)
  4. replace 5DI with 1DSIII (pro body capabilities)

So those are my choices and they're all real options for me. Each has its merits but I need a bit of help in working out what factors (other than financial) I should take into account.

Guys, help me please?

A safe bet is to wait for 5D mkIII. If we are lucky it will be a 5D with the good features from 1Ds / 7D, including sealing and better AF. I can't quite replace 1Ds mkII with 5D mkII due to the lack of these 2 important features.

Whats up with your current bodies? IQ? Focussing speed? Nothing at all but like us all the ads are so tempting???

You've got it in one! I don't miss anything that I don't have on the basis that I don't know what I'm missing.:bang: Better high ISO noise performance is never to be sneezed at though.

5D classic is a great general purpose camera and personally I don't miss what I haven't had yet in the 5D II :) Saying that, those extra megapixels and better high ISO performance wouldn't go amiss though, as would the nicer LCD ;)

Ah, you'd turn me into a chimper would you?:naughty:

a 5DIII eh? That sounds good on two counts:

1. A new FF body with all modern enhancements & features or

2. The price of used 5DII's coming down as a result.
