it certainly looks very strange - just looking at the dried grass in the background, maybe it is some kind of camoflauge to look like a piece of grass. Very nice photos.
You are very brave taking close ups of grasshoppers - I've been known to poke my camera lens up close to bees and wasps with a certain amount of respect but no fear, but when it comes to things that jump and have no control of where they land .....
