nodal Ninja NN4 advice

Does anyone know if a nodal ninja nn4 is compatible with a D800 and a Nikon 16-35mm lens. The nodal point on this lens is at the front and I'm worried the NN4 will not have a long enough rail to correctly align the nodal point. I've also got a 24-70mm and I'd be interested if that will work ok with the NN4.

I think you're either misunderstanding the method or using the wrong terminology, Dale. If you're going to be rotating for stitched pano's then you need to rotate around the entrance pupil (ie, the no parallax point) and not the nodal point. The entrance pupil will almost certainly be within the lens whilst the nodal points (front and rear) can be outside of the structure.
If you're setting up on the front nodal point for other reasons then I apologise.

Thanks Bob I know I used the wrong terminology but most people seem to be wrongly using nodal point so I thought I'd continue the trend hoping that more people would know what I was referring to! If that makes any sense!
I have just set up my camera and lens using 2 verticals aligned then rotating the tripod head and moving the camera back on my rail till the verticals are aligned correctly with my left right and centre focus points. When I have done this the centre point of my tripod is about 3cm ish from the front of the 16-35mm lens. The rail I am using is a 180mm I think hence my concern that the NN4 may not be big enough for my camera lens combination.

Well, if my understanding of your methodology is correct then I'm surprised (gobsmacked) that you've found the EP outside of the lens barrel.

Sorry didn't make myself clear it is about 3cm from the front of the lens in the direction of the camera body not in front of the lens

Ah, okay....that makes more sense although I can't help you with your question as I'm Canon and use an NN5.

Managed to find the answer to my question on the nodal ninja site so thought I'd post it here just in case it is relevant to anyone else.

Note on NN3: The 16-35mm Nikkor lens is not compatible with both the NN3 and NN4 series pano heads.
The Canon EF 8-15mm is very long for a fisheye and may require use of T-30-III T-adapter which gives a bit of added adjustment length.

Can anyone recommend a different panorama head that will be compatible with my 16-35mm as I really like the lens and don't want to have to change lenses just to use a nodal ninja.
