I have a daughter who regularly asks her bemused father to help her when she wishes to make any purchase of any value. She now wishes to buy a new camera and has been looking at the Fuji HS10 and the Panasonic FX100. She wants a camera with good zoom facilities and very good image results. She also thinks she needs a wide range of aperture settings and some models only offer two. Does she need more than two? If you can offer me any advice which I can pass on to her to help her come to a reasoned decision, I would be very grateful. Her budget is in the region of £350.

Thank you.

If she can do without a massive focal range, then the world of the DSLR is within her budget, IMHO a DSLR will offer way better image quality than she'd get from any compact or bridge camera....Sony make some fantastic entry level DSLR's like this one:

A longer zoom lens can be bought at a later date, something like this is very good value for money: http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy...di-ii-ld-macro-lens-sony-minolta-fit/p1011874

I started on a Sony A200, which gave me a fantastic grounding!!!!

I would recommend the Fuji finepix HS10 it has a massive 24 -720mm range and is in her budget.
