O2 broadband and Time Capsule

I've been using Virgin broadband through my Time Capsule for the past couple of years and have just changed to O2 broadband. I can get a signal through the Time Capsule but the status light on it keeps flashing amber, and won't back up any more.

Has anyone come across this problem before?

Sorry if this is asking the bleedin' obvious, but you do have an ethernet ADSL modem between the TimeCapsule and your phone line don't you?

Yes :)

The setup is the same as before, the only difference is it's an ADSL modem instead of a cable one.

Just checking ;)

Few more questions...
Have you got a microfilter between your ADSL modem and your phone socket?
Do the ADSL modem lights signal that it's connected?
If you plug the ethernet cable straight into your Mac, can you get on the internet that way?

Yes to all, as I said I can connect to the internet absolute fine through the Time Capsule and the O2 router itself, but the TC isn't fully functional in that it won't back up.

Ah, sorry. I've got the AirportExpress rather than the TC and the flashing amber light means it can't connect to t'interweb.

The Apple support forums suggest:

Open AirPort Utility (Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities)
Click Manual Setup
Click the word "Status"

A window will open to explain the reason for the flashing amber light.

That's the thing, it usually means the same on the TC, which is why it's all the more confusing. I've tried the status thing but no joy, I'll try and do a hard reset of the TC and start from scratch.

Cheers

That is the set up I've got and it was just plug in and go.

Could it be something to do with the IP address from your old modem to the Time Capsule?

The Airport utility would be my first port of call though.

First place I went was Airport Utility.

Will take a look at that later Chappers, thanks.

If you can obtain an internet connection, then the issue is elsewhere on the TC, not with the networking.

Since the issue seems to be that you cannot backup to TC

Do you get any backup failed notices in Time Machine preferences?

Can you mount the TC in finder and see the sparsebundle?

Under the TM preferences does your TC show up when you click, "Select Disk"

As the OP has already stated, it's not a networking issue

:bonk::bonk::bonk:

It's the backup feature that's not working, not the Internet routing...

I would say though, that the thread title is misleading.
